883 numbers will provide interoperability between VoIP Service Providers. This means that users of MOBIVOX, Skype, Google Talk, Gizmo etc. can call each other using 883 numbers instead of VoIP usernames

Basically, the 883 country code works like any other international country codes, just as 44 refers to the United Kingdom and 1 to the United States.

The idea according to Voxbone CEO Rod Ullens is to provide a virtual world number reachable from anywhere. "We'd like this number range to be reachable for free from all the VoIP communities and a very cheap call from the plain old telephone network (PSTN)," says Ullens.
